Dixieland Invitational

Well, another Dixieland Invitational is in the books and what a tremendous success it was!  The competition, held in Birmingham Alabama, was an exciting weekend of championship dancing with dance studios from all over the Southeast.  Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana  South and North Carolina were all represented this year.  Taking top teacher honors was Kim Richards from Dancers By Kim, a dance studio in Trussville Alabama.  Thanks, go out to Mike Fowler from Magic City Ballroom in Vestavia Alabama for putting together such a well run event.  Representing the Carolina Dancesport here in sunny Charleston South Carolina was Mrs. Mary Davis and her instructor Jaime Emerine.  The dancers performed many dances not the least of which were Foxtrot, Waltz, and Tango.  In the Rhythm category they performed Rumba, Swing, West Coast Swing, Bolero, Hustle, Samba and of course the Salsa!  Mrs. Davis won 25 first placements. 8 seconds and 1 third to round out her weekend of competition.  She even danced in several Open categories and won top honors in many of them.  After making many new friends and enjoying the Doubletree Hotel’s famous cookies the dynamic duo departed for a well deserved lunch at Five Guy’s Burgers and Fries in Augusta Georgia.  Next up, Savannah in May or Tampa…..we’ll see!
